Meet ellen - AGAIN!
My life is a 40-plus year story in public service. It includes a decorated career as an FBI Special Agent; service as president of a national association of FBI agents; several years on the faculty at the University of North Florida, and five years as Mayor in Atlantic Beach. With assignments across the nation and the world, I picked Atlantic Beach as the perfect final home to settle with family and to raise my children. I love Atlantic Beach!
In the FBI, I worked major cases, like the Iran-Contra Investigation, high profile bank robbery, extortion, terrorism, kidnapping, and homicide cases. I also served as a liaison to Congress and a national press spokesperson. After 9/11, I was selected to head the North Florida Joint Terrorism Task Force in Jacksonville.
I have had a steady hand in our community for more than twenty-five years. This includes past volunteer affiliations and board service on the Atlantic Beach Community Development Board, Atlantic Beach Code Enforcement Board, Beaches Habitat, United Way, COJ Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women, and as team mom. While earning my doctorate at UNF, I taught there on subjects including terrorism and homeland security, crime in America, white-collar crime, and mass murder.
It was the highest professional honor of my life to serve as Mayor for two terms. While in office (and after), I have worked hard for all the citizens of Atlantic Beach. I remain committed to building community and maintaining our small-town quality of life through trusting relationships. While in office, I was proud to be a Florida League of Cities Home Rule Hero every year, fighting for the right of our city to govern itself without preemptions from the State. I have been crisis-tested to manage the city through hurricanes and a pandemic. I played a singular role in lowering the millage rate, while also securing appropriations to the City of Atlantic Beach from Jacksonville and the State totaling over$ 2.5M and increasing grant funding.
I have always done my best to embody a “no drama,” non-partisan, civil, team approach. I remain committed to more open and transparent government, to responsive government, and to working with the Commission, City Manager and staff in positive, productive ways.
I am running again to complete the major iniatives I started, to better adhere to the Council-Manager form of government, to build commUNITY, and to advocate for the quality of life of every citizen of our city. As Mayor, I pledge to listen and serve YOU, the citizens. I am asking for your support and your vote.
Fair Campaign Pledge*- AGAIN!
This is a nonpartisan race. As a candidate running for re-election as Mayor of Atlantic Beach, I believe that the issues in the campaign should be openly and fully addressed in a fair, civil, professional and productive manner. Negative campaign practices cause community divisions and divert the attention of the community to matters other than the important issues affecting the future of our community and families. To this end, I once again make this voluntary pledge to run a positive and professional campaign consistent with my vision for Atlantic Beach, even though applicable laws and regulations do not require that I do so.
Accordingly, I, Ellen Glasser, hereby voluntarily pledge to abide by the following ten principles throughout this campaign:
I shall endeavor to run a positive campaign focusing on the issues important to our community as well as emphasizing my suitability and qualifications for the office.
I shall at all times conduct myself professionally and in a manner endeavoring to set a positive example for our community.
I shall not make statements that falsify, distort, or misrepresent facts, or approve the use such statements in campaign materials.
I shall limit any criticism of my opponent(s) to legitimate challenges of his/her record, suitability, qualifications, statements, and positions.
I shall not publish, display, or circulate anonymous campaign literature or advertising, nor tolerate my supporters doing so.
I shall request that my campaign supporters not interfere with the display of campaign signs or the distribution of campaign literature in support of my opponent(s).
I shall not use or condone the use of any form of bigotry or prejudice in the campaign, especially when based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability.
I shall not use or permit the use of malicious untruths or innuendos about the personal life or family members of my opponent(s).
I shall not make or condone any unfounded accusations that discredit the credibility of my opponent(s).
I shall strongly discourage any third party from attacking my opponent(s) with any information or materials inconsistent with the personal standards I have pledged above.
* This is the same pledge I made when running for Mayor in 2017 and 2020.
